Meet Michael Coles, LMT, NMT, CES
A Personal Path Into Physical Medicine
Michael Coles came to physical medicine through personal experience. Growing up, he struggled with his own health challenges and discovered how much movement, activity, and the right support could change the way a person feels and functions. Later, during his time in the U.S. Marine Corps, injuries and rehabilitation deepened that understanding and ultimately shaped the direction of his career.
Originally on a physical therapy track while earning his undergraduate degree in Applied Science and Health from Medical Careers College in Virginia, Michael began studying massage therapy as part of his hands-on clinical training. What started as a pathway into physical medicine quickly became a passion for helping people move better, recover more fully, and avoid unnecessary procedures whenever possible.
Over the years, he has worked in private practices, sports-focused settings, and alongside chiropractors, developing a rehab-centered approach that blends hands-on care with movement-based recovery. Before joining the team at Advanced Care Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Michael also served as Director of the Medical Massage Therapy program at Chester Career College, helping train future therapists in practical, results-driven care.
More Rehab Than Relaxation
Michael’s approach is focused less on relaxation and more on restoring function. His sessions are designed to help patients improve mobility, reduce tension, and retrain movement patterns that may be contributing to ongoing discomfort or physical limitations.
Treatment often begins with passive neuromuscular and myofascial techniques to help calm the nervous system and reduce muscle tension. From there, he incorporates assisted movement, corrective exercise, and guided home care strategies designed to reinforce progress outside the clinic. He works closely with Dr. Tyson to support chiropractic adjustments, improve joint stability, and help patients build long-term strength and confidence in how they move.
“I really like helping people actually move better,” Michael says, “not just getting cleared, but getting back to doing the things they enjoy—whether that’s hiking with family, staying active, or getting back into sports.”
Michael especially enjoys working with veterans and understands firsthand how difficult it can be to access quality care quickly. Helping fellow veterans receive the support they need is something he takes seriously and personally.
Outside the Clinic
When he’s not working with patients, Michael enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife Jane, their son, and their dogs. Whether it’s hiking local trails, traveling, or simply staying active as a family, movement and wellness remain an important part of everyday life.
